Kenya – In just one month, WISE-ED’s Bridge of Hope (BOH) program in partnership with local institutions and CBOs in Kenya’s Coastal region has blossomed into a powerful movement, uniting communities through sports, learning, and dialogue. What began as a small initiative has rapidly expanded to 16 football teams from diverse local clubs, with overwhelming support from community leaders, youth, and even international visitors.

The Bridge of Hope (BOH) Club is a transformative initiative by WISE-ED that harnesses the power of sports, education, and community engagement to empower youth in marginalized areas. Combining football with life skills training, BOH creates safe spaces where young people develop critical competencies while fostering peace and unity. Each club serves as a hub for holistic development, integrating regular sports activities with digital literacy, financial education, environmental stewardship, and cross-cultural exchange. The clubs are supported by peer to peer resource mobilization.

Beneficiaries & Stakeholders

BOH primarily serves youth aged 8-18 in underserved communities, particularly in regions affected by poverty, conflict, or limited educational infrastructure. Key stakeholders include local schools, community leaders, parents, and partnering organizations that provide resources and mentorship. The program also engages professional athletes as role models, financial institutions for savings programs, and environmental groups for sustainability initiatives. By involving entire communities, BOH ensures lasting impact beyond individual participants.

Vision

We envision a world where every young person, regardless of background, can access opportunities to thrive physically, emotionally, and economically. BOH clubs aspire to break cycles of poverty and conflict by nurturing resilient leaders who champion peace, innovation, and environmental responsibility in their communities. Our long-term goal is to establish a global network of clubs that empower youth to become catalysts for positive social change.

Mission

BOH's mission is threefold: (1) To use sports as a vehicle for teaching teamwork, discipline, and conflict resolution; (2) To equip youth with 21st-century skills through digital and financial literacy programs; and (3) To strengthen community bonds through intergenerational dialogue and collaborative projects. By combining play with purposeful learning, we create transformative experiences that help young people build brighter futures while contributing to more cohesive, sustainable societies.

A Month of Transformative Activities

Sports for Peace & Unity

  • 72 teams (up from 16 in Week 1!) have competed in friendly matches without a single conflict—proving football can be a tool for harmony.

  • Local leaders donated football gear, showing their commitment to keeping youth engaged in positive activities.

  • Coaches continue to volunteer and are trained in conflict resolution to reinforce fair play and teamwork beyond the field.

  • Youth were selected and sponsored to be trained as sports officials

Digital Learning & Financial Literacy

  • Youth gained skills in digital literacy, using tablets for interactive learning.

  • Financial literacy workshops taught saving habits, with some opening their first bank accounts!

Tree Planting & Environmental Stewardship

  • Over 2000 trees planted by players and community members, linking sports to climate action.

Cultural Exchange Through Cooking

  • A community cooking day brought together families to share traditional dishes, celebrating diversity.

Community Dialogue Sessions

  • Elders, parents, and youth discussed peacebuilding, education, and opportunities, strengthening trust.

Special Visit: Future Shapers Denmark

A delegation from Future Shapers Denmark joined BOH activities, exchanging ideas on youth leadership and global citizenship. Their presence highlighted the power of cross-cultural learning.

Why This Matters

In a region where youth often face limited opportunities, BOH has:

  • Reduced idle time and crime risks by engaging youth constructively.

  • Fostered friendships across ethnic and religious lines.

  • Equipped young people with life-changing skills (digital, financial, environmental).

A Thank You to Our Champions

Wise Ed extends deep gratitude to:

  • Local leaders for their donations and participation.

  • Coaches and volunteers for their tireless work.

  • The 72 teams who played with respect and joy.

This is only the beginning. Next month, we scale to clubs in 10 more regions!
